The Spinney at Little Bytham announces £150,000 refurbishment plans as it celebrates 20 years

A woodland play space is celebrating 20 years and a major £150,000 refurbishment is planned.

The Bythams Woodland Trust (BWT), which oversees The Spinney in Little Bytham, is proposing to carry out the refurbishments on play equipment “which really needs to be replaced”, as stated in the plan.

Enjoying woodland crafts

Children – and those young at heart – had a great day at a woodland craft day on Saturday.

Hosted at The Spinney near Little Bytham, it was the last of three craft days held to encourage people to visit the area.

Activities on offer, led by Jo Hammond, included making insects in a variety of materials, constructing bug hotels, making craft pieces to hang on the Tree for All Seasons.

Recent Information Request : 22/03/2017

Sometime over the last few weeks, damage has been caused to the play area in Little Bytham, off Creeton Road. The offender has caused damage to the playing equipment using a heavy cutting tool, possible a pair of bolt cutters. If you have any information relating to this crime, please contact the police on 101, quoting incident 83 – 16/03/2017

Another crime I would like to bring to your attention is a shed burglary in the village of Little Bytham. The offence occurred on the allotments off Creeton Road, where a number a hand tools and a tractor top linkage was stolen. The offence occurred between Monday the 13th and Sunday the 19th of March 2017. If you have any information relating to this crime, please contact the police on 101, quoting incident 204 – 20/03/2017.

Volunteers at The Spinney near Little Bytham chosen to champion national project

Climbing trees, building dens and running around in the mud are innocent thrills that evoke childhood memories in most people.

And its these activities, along with a wish to get closer to nature, that has encouraged a team of dedicated volunteers to create a woodland paradise known as The Spinney, near Little Bytham.
