Tireless community stalwart Pat Bowles has been rewarded for her efforts with an MBE in the New Year honours list. Pat, 80, who lives in Castle Bytham, was nominated for the honour for the huge amount of volunteer work she does – including running an international charity aimed at protecting the rare Caspian horse.

She said: “I was somewhat flabbergasted when I found out. It was such a surprise.”

Caspian Horse Society Strawberry and Wine Party

Pat Bowles will be holding her annual Strawberry and Wine Party in aid of the Caspian Horse Society on Thursday 6 July (1995) at 7.00pm at Pawnbrokers in Castle Bytham and some of the Caspians will be attending!

Pat reports that one of last years foals has gone to Texas and the American who has him considers that next year he should be a potential champion.  The other colt did not travel so far – he went to Spalding and is making many fans.  The filly known as ‘Dotty Doris’ will be at the party.  She was born on the day of last years ‘do’.

Tickets are £5 from Pat who can be contacted on 410908.  There will be a raffle and a Caspian merchandise stall.  As Pat says “We badly need funds to continue to support this fascinating and very ancient breed which i still on the endangered list”.
